In Florence and all throughout South Carolina, people enjoy the freedom that comes with driving their own vehicle. Many drivers at some point in their lives will get pulled over for speeding or for some other driving infraction, which can lead to an increase in auto insurance premiums or even a suspended license. Other times drivers are accused of more serious offenses. Traffic offenses can sometimes bring serious consequences, especially if a driver is accused of DUI or driving with a revoked license. A conviction for the most serious of traffic offenses can even lead to jail time and hefty fines.
In a story out of Georgetown, a 32-year-old man is in jail after he was arrested and charged for multiple offenses. According to authorities, the man was involved in a minor car accident on the afternoon of October 21. However, the man did not stop at the scene of accident. A Georgetown police officer attempted to pull the man over, but he allegedly continued to flee from the scene. The officer gave chase. The pursuit reached speeds of about 65 miles per hour. The chase ended when the man lost control of his car and crashed into a utility pole. In addition to charges for the police chase and the hit and run, the man was charged with DUI, having an open container, and driving with a suspended license.
