Many children in South Carolina and throughout the country enjoy playing little league. Little league baseball is a great activity that teaches children how to play on a team. Many coaches stress the importance of playing fairly and being a good sport. Umpires are often present at these games to make sure that the players, coaches, and spectators follow the rules and treat each other with respect. When it comes to following the law off the field, however, two local umpires have run into trouble.
Two little league umpires were arrested in Florence and now face loitering and drug charges. Law enforcement officials discovered 7.1 grams of marijuana in their vehicle. They were charged with simple possession of marijuana and taken to the local detention center. They have since been released on bond. The two men reported that they were traveling to a little league game in Columbia.
Local authorities began to suspect that the men had purchased drugs after their vehicle was seen hanging around the area. A local police officer stated that the men visited multiple locations looking for drugs. After the men allegedly drove away from a home that is known for dealing drugs, they were stopped and arrested.
If you have been charged with drug crimes such as possession of marijuana, it is important to remember that you are innocent until proven guilty and that you have the right to an attorney. You may want to contact a criminal defense attorney to discuss your legal options.
